Is it true? The more teens are exposed to drinking in the movies, the more likely teens are to binge drink, according to a multinational study to be published in the April issue of Pediatrics. Despite acknowledging weaknesses in the study’s design, the authors believe these results support earlier U.S. based results.
It is important to note HealthDay‘s caveat on that earlier study, “While the researchers uncovered an association between alcohol use in movies and teen drinking, it did not prove a cause-and-effect relationship.” The authors of the new study and other experts agree that further longitudinal research is needed.
